Open Cosmos brings Natasha Dillon on board to lead people strategy amid global expansion

Open Cosmos has named Natasha Dillon its new Chief People Officer, tasking her with leading the company’s people strategy as it prepares for its next phase of international growth. The appointment will focus on strengthening talent, leadership and organisational capabilities to support the company’s expansion.

Dillon joined Open Cosmos in September, bringing nearly 30 years of international experience in people strategy, organisational transformation and value creation. In her new position, she will oversee the people function, focusing on attracting, developing and retaining talent to support the company’s business objectives.

The appointment comes as Open Cosmos advances its international expansion following a recent €300 million funding round and the announcement of its planned 192-satellite constellation, ConnectedCosmos. Founded in 2015, the company aims to understand and connect the world through space by combining satellite data, communications infrastructure and advanced analytics to improve decision-making and address global challenges.

Dillon will work across geographies and business functions to establish the people structures, leadership capabilities and working practices required for sustainable growth. She will also focus on preserving the entrepreneurial culture, agility and ambition that have shaped the company since its inception.

Before joining Open Cosmos, Dillon served as Senior Managing Director for Value Creation at British Columbia Investment Management Corporation, working with deal teams and management teams to strengthen leadership, governance and performance. Earlier, she was Chief Portfolio People Officer at Apax Partners, overseeing people and talent strategies across 70 portfolio companies.

She also spent 7 years as Chief People Officer at Inmarsat, where she established and led the people function through a period of business growth and transformation. Her work at the satellite communications company received the Chief HR Officer of the Year Award for Innovation in 2018.

Open Cosmos CEO and Co-founder Rafel Jordá Siquier said: “We are delighted to welcome Natasha to Open Cosmos. Her experience of building and leading people functions through periods of growth and transformation, including in the satellite sector, will be invaluable as we enter our next phase. Natasha will help us attract and develop the talent we need to scale internationally, while retaining the entrepreneurial culture and customer focus that make Open Cosmos distinctive.”

Commenting on her appointment, Natasha Dillon, Chief People Officer at Open Cosmos, said: “Open Cosmos is doing something fundamentally important – using data and connectivity from space to help address some of the world’s biggest challenges. After spending a large portion of my career in the satellite industry, I know how much depends on having the right people, leadership and culture in place. The company has already built an exceptional foundation, and I am excited to work with Rafel and the team to support its international growth and strengthen how we work together across the business going forward.”
