Agility Robotics has unveiled Digit 5, a 5-foot-11-inch humanoid robot designed to work alongside people in warehouses and manufacturing facilities. Introduced on September 15, the US-made robot weighs 284 pounds, can repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds and can recharge its battery in just 9 minutes.
The 5th-generation robot builds on 3 years of customer deployments with Digit 4. Agility redesigned its hardware, power system and safety architecture after customers requested higher payload capacity, longer operating hours and safer operation without separating robots from workers using physical barriers.
Digit 5 features redesigned legs that bend in a more human-like direction instead of the backward-bending legs of its predecessor. This allows it to crouch, collect cargo and kneel without its ankles hitting the floor. Its proprietary cycloidal actuators support the redesigned joints and contribute to a 40% increase in payload capacity, allowing the robot to repeatedly handle loads of up to 50 pounds.
The robot can kneel using knee pads and move into a seated position while shutting down its motors, allowing workers to approach it more safely.
Digit 5’s reach has increased from 5.5 feet to 7.2 feet, while its compact design allows it to pass through standard doorways and operate in facilities built for people.
Its battery provides around 90 minutes of operation. With a 9-minute charging cycle, Agility says Digit 5 could potentially operate for more than 20 hours per day if it can regularly return to its charging dock.
The robot uses cameras, depth sensors and inertial units to detect people and determine when to change direction, stop or enter a seated position. Its rear section includes a charging port, safety display, emergency stop button and camera.
Agility says Digit 5 is the 1st humanoid robot designed for field evaluation against OSHA industrial safety standards. The company is also working on humanoid robot safety standards in the US, Canada and through ISO.
NVIDIA is the 1st launch partner for Digit 5’s safety stack, with Agility using NVIDIA IGX Thor and Halos for Robotics to develop its safety controller and certification pathway.
The robot has 30 motors, with motor-level controls operating around 1,000 times per second. Its ISO-standard grippers can also be replaced with other tools, including a claw-like hand for handling large bins.
Agility’s Arc system connects Digit with warehouse and production systems and coordinates tasks with conveyors and autonomous mobile robots, enabling applications from depalletizing to palletizing.
Agility reported more than $300 million in conditional commitments for Digit 5 as of May 2026. Early access is planned for the 1st half of 2027, followed by wider availability later that year.
Production will take place at the company’s 70,000-square-foot RoboFab facility, which has capacity for up to 10,000 robots annually.
