Snapchat launches new tools to make event planning easier

Planning events through group chats could become easier on Snapchat with the launch of Snapchat Plans, a new set of tools designed to help users organise and manage events within the app.

The company said Snapchat Plans is based on user behaviour, particularly the growing use of group chats to plan real-life events. According to a survey cited by Snapchat, 35% of users aged 13 to 24 use group chats to make plans and organise events.

Snapchat Plans allows users to send and receive invitations from mutual friends and keep track of key event details, including the date, time and attendees. Users can also view all their plans in one “easy-to-find” place. Snapchat said users will soon be able to create events directly from a chat window.

To create a plan, users can add a title, select a date and time, and invite up to 200 people. Friends, family members and acquaintances can be invited. Users can also add Bitmoji cover art to personalise their plans.

The cover art can automatically change as the plan progresses. Invitations are sent through individual chat windows, where invited users can RSVP with “Going, Maybe, or Can’t Go,” without interrupting ongoing conversations.

Snapchat Plans also introduces a “My Plans” section, where users can view their current, upcoming and past events. The “Our Plans” section shows plans that users have in common with other people.

Users can revisit a plan to check the list of invited attendees, change details and update event information through the My Plans section. Snapchat Plans will also send users a reminder 1 hour before an event begins.
