Efforts to strengthen the fight against cybercrime received a boost as the Department of Justice’s Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC) expanded its collaboration with TikTok. The initiative aims to improve coordination on cybercrime investigations, digital safety and the protection of online users.
According to an official statement, the DOJ-OOC recently met with TikTok Legal Policy Operations Officer Yusuke Mori to discuss the legal and operational processes involved in handling law enforcement requests related to the platform.
The discussions focused on preservation requests, information requests and content removal requests. Both sides reviewed the scope, requirements and limitations associated with each process to improve cooperation during cybercrime investigations.
As the country’s central authority for international cooperation in cybercrime cases and the agency responsible for issuing cybercrime investigation guidelines, the DOJ-OOC said the meeting was intended to strengthen coordination between government agencies and the social media platform.
The department and TikTok also explored opportunities to work together on public awareness campaigns, digital safety programmes and joint initiatives aimed at tackling cybercrime and other online threats.
The DOJ-OOC noted that continued engagement with technology companies is becoming increasingly important as cyber threats grow more sophisticated and complex.
The department added that stronger collaboration with digital platforms will improve international coordination, support the preservation of electronic evidence, enhance the protection of internet users and strengthen cybercrime investigations while ensuring the rule of law is upheld.
