WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new set of features in its latest beta update, including a green online indicator and improved backup management options, according to reports.
The messaging platform is experimenting with a visual change that introduces a green dot-style indicator to show when a contact is online. This feature is aimed at making user presence status more noticeable within chats and contact lists.
Alongside this, WhatsApp is also working on enhanced tools for managing chat backups. The updated backup controls are expected to give users more flexibility in handling stored chat data, potentially improving storage management and backup organisation.
The features are currently being tested with a limited group of beta users and are not yet available to the wider public. WhatsApp typically uses its beta program to refine new tools before a global rollout.
The updates are part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to improve user experience and provide better control over privacy and data management within the app. The platform continues to introduce incremental changes focused on usability and performance.
No official release timeline has been announced for these features, but they are expected to undergo further testing before being rolled out to stable versions of the app.
