In his new role, Dinesh will lead risk and compliance strategy for HSBC’s International Wealth and Premier Banking business. He will focus on helping the organization navigate evolving customer expectations, digital transformation, financial crime risks, regulatory changes, geopolitical challenges, and the growing importance of data, technology, and operational resilience. He has highlighted the need to build a Risk & Compliance culture that is agile, data-driven, commercially connected, and strongly focused on clients while supporting sustainable growth and maintaining the highest standards of integrity.
This promotion marks a return to the Risk & Compliance function for a seasoned leader with more than 20 years of experience across business, risk, and executive leadership roles spanning Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Prior to this appointment, Dinesh served as International Wealth & Premier Banking CEO – Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at HSBC. In this role, he led the wealth and premier banking business across multiple markets, driving growth, strengthening customer engagement, and expanding the bank’s wealth management capabilities throughout the region.
He also served as Global Chief Commercial Officer (Interim) for International Wealth and Premier Banking, contributing to the development of global commercial strategies and growth initiatives.
Before joining HSBC, Dinesh spent more than 20 years with Citi, where he held a range of senior leadership positions across consumer banking, risk management, and business functions. Most recently, he served as Managing Director and CEO – Consumer Bank, Middle East, overseeing the consumer banking business across the UAE, Middle East, and North Africa. During his tenure, he led significant transformation initiatives that strengthened business performance and customer engagement.
Earlier at Citi, he served as Chief Risk Officer – Consumer Bank EMEA, managing credit, operational, and fraud risk across 23 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He also held the role of Regional Risk Director, CitiFinancial EMEA, overseeing risk management across multiple consumer finance businesses and markets.
His career also includes leadership positions such as Country Risk Head – Citibank Italy, Managing Director – CitiFinancial India, Business Head – Unsecured Lending, and Regional Head – Mortgages and Business Lending in India. Across these roles, he led business transformation programs, expanded lending businesses, strengthened risk frameworks, and delivered sustainable growth through balanced customer and risk strategies.
With extensive experience across both business and risk leadership functions, Dinesh brings a unique perspective to managing growth, customer experience, and risk governance. His appointment is expected to further strengthen HSBC’s risk and compliance capabilities as the organization continues to expand its wealth and premier banking business globally.
