India’s digital transport ecosystem is set to receive a major boost as SAS partners with the Vehicle Administration and Handling Application Network (VAHAN) to enhance efficiency, data intelligence and service delivery through advanced analytics and artificial intelligence.

The e-Transport Mission Mode Project (e-Transport MMP), led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and implemented by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), has played a key role in modernizing transport administration across the country. The initiative has automated RTO operations nationwide, created a consolidated national transport database and enabled real-time access to vehicle and transport-related information. It has also supported the rollout of several citizen-centric and trade-centric services under the Digital India Programme.

Under the new engagement, SAS will focus on improving anomaly detection, data management, data harmonization and data quality across VAHAN’s extensive datasets. The initiative aims to create a unified view of vehicle and transport information, helping authorities make faster decisions, strengthen regulatory oversight and improve user experience on the platform.

The project will also support Vehicle Registration & Lifecycle Analytics and Enforcement Analytics, enabling transport authorities to identify and prioritize high-impact issues more effectively. Through data-driven insights, authorities will be better equipped to analyze trends, detect risks early and develop more transparent and responsive services for citizens.

Noshin Kagalwalla, Vice President – Public Sector, APAC & Managing Director, SAS India, said, “Key platforms like VAHAN play a vital role in enabling efficient, transparent and citizen-centric services. By helping unify and analyze data across multiple touchpoints, this partnership can support better planning and stronger governance with trusted actionable insights.”

The collaboration aims to build a scalable analytics foundation for MoRTH and NIC that can support the evolving requirements of transport administration. It is also expected to contribute to evidence-based policymaking and improved service outcomes at a national level.

By integrating AI and advanced analytics into VAHAN, the initiative seeks to further strengthen digital governance and enhance the efficiency of India’s transport management ecosystem.
