Ahead of the official rollout later this year, a new leak has revealed Google’s upcoming Noto 3D emojis designed for Android 17. The refreshed emoji set is expected to bring a more modern and expressive look to over 4,000 emojis supported on Android devices.
Earlier this month, Google announced during the Android Show: I/O Edition that Android 17 would introduce redesigned emojis using a new visual style called Noto 3D. Now, fresh leaked images shared online offer a closer look at several updated emoji designs.
The leaked preview includes smiley faces, crying emojis, animals, food items, fruits and drink icons. While the overall appearance remains familiar, the new versions feature a cleaner and more polished 3D design compared to existing Android emojis.
According to the leak, users can reportedly access the full emoji collection through a Magisk module. However, some emojis may not display correctly because of missing ZWJ (Zero-Width Joiner) characters, which combine multiple emojis into a single variation.
Google has confirmed that the Noto 3D emoji redesign will roll out across its platforms later in 2026, starting with Pixel smartphones. The company has not yet started testing the updated emojis in Android 17 beta versions, but the new designs are expected to appear in upcoming beta updates soon.
The refreshed emoji collection is also likely to expand across Google services such as Gboard, Gmail and YouTube after the official launch.
Meanwhile, Google I/O 2026 is scheduled to take place later today. The annual event is expected to showcase new artificial intelligence features, updates related to Android 17, Wear OS and Android XR, along with other upcoming ecosystem developments.
