A suspected biometric authentication fraud case has come under investigation in Haryana’s Hisar district after allegations emerged that an Aadhaar operator used a rubber thumb impression to gain unauthorised access to the system.
The district administration received a complaint accusing a Zonal Citizens Resource Information Manager, identified as an Aadhaar operator, of misusing the biometric login process. According to the complaint, the authorised user’s thumb impression-based login credentials were allegedly being used by unauthorised individuals to access the system.
After the complaint surfaced, the administration informed the Unique Identification Authority of India about the matter. Following this, UIDAI’s Regional Office in Chandigarh instructed officials to conduct a detailed inquiry and take legal action if any violations are confirmed.
An official communication sent by the Additional Deputy Commissioner to the Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Chandigarh, mentioned allegations that the operator may have manipulated the biometric authentication process. The operator reportedly works with the Citizen Resource Information Department, which manages citizen welfare data, Family ID operations and district-level verification services.
As per the complaint, the operator allegedly used a rubber thumb impression instead of an actual biometric thumb during the Operator Confirmation process on the Aadhaar Enrolment Client Multiple Platform. The complaint claimed that this method may have been used to bypass the security safeguards built into the Aadhaar authentication system.
The matter has also raised concerns over the location from where the Aadhaar machine was allegedly being operated. The complaint stated that the machine may have been used from an unauthorised private location instead of an approved official premises. Officials suspect that unauthorised activities could have been carried out through the system.
The allegations have increased administrative scrutiny as the case involves both biometric authentication security and control over Aadhaar-related operations. Authorities have not confirmed whether the allegations are proven so far, but the district administration has formally reported the issue and UIDAI has ordered a detailed investigation. The findings of the inquiry will determine whether legal proceedings are initiated.
