Amid rising competition in quick commerce, Amazon is witnessing strong traction with its Amazon Now service, reporting 25% month-on-month growth in orders. CEO Andy Jassy shared the update during the company’s Q1 earnings call.
Launched in June, Amazon Now entered the segment after a delayed start and has since expanded to Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru with 300 micro-fulfillment centres. Jassy noted, “Prime members tripling [SIC] their shopping frequency once they start using it. The service is now available to tens of millions of customers across 9 countries, with more to come as well.”
For the quarter ending March 31, Amazon reported operating revenue of $23.9 billion, up from $18.4 billion a year ago, driven by strong performance from its cloud unit. Net sales rose 17% year-on-year to $181.5 billion.
The company is now scaling its quick commerce operations further. Amazon announced plans to expand Amazon Now to 100 cities, supported by over 1,000 micro-fulfillment centres. It is also investing Rs 2,800 crore (about $300 million) to strengthen infrastructure and operations in India, part of its larger $35 billion commitment by 2030. A portion of this investment will be used to double its quick commerce footprint by increasing store count and improving delivery speed.
Competition in the segment is intensifying. Flipkart, owned by Walmart, has been rapidly expanding its own quick commerce service Minutes, adding around 100 dark stores every month and targeting 1,200 stores by June. The platform had around 750–800 dark stores in March and is also planning to launch a standalone app later this year.
Earlier, Amazon India’s senior VP Amit Agarwal said the company has seen strong traction in cities where the service is active.
With aggressive expansion plans and rising adoption, the quick commerce battle in India is set to intensify further.
