Vivo could be preparing to expand its upcoming flagship smartphone lineup beyond China, as the rumoured Vivo X500 Ultra has reportedly appeared in international IMEI database listings. The phone is also expected to feature a new telephoto camera, although its primary rear camera may have a lower resolution than its predecessor.
The Vivo X500 Ultra is expected to launch in China next year as the 4th model in the series, alongside the Vivo X500, X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max. Recent reports have suggested that the company may also introduce the Ultra model in selected international markets.
Vivo X500 Ultra global launch details
According to a report, the smartphone has appeared in Turkey’s IMEI database with the model number V2660. Another listing reportedly identifies the device as Jovi, Vivo’s brand used in Brazil, with the model number J2613. These listings suggest that the phone could launch in selected markets, including Turkey and Brazil.
However, Vivo has not confirmed an international launch. Earlier reports indicated that the handset might remain exclusive to China. Oppo is also reportedly reconsidering a global launch for its Find X10 Ultra amid rising manufacturing costs caused by DRAM and NAND chip shortages and supply chain disruptions.
Expected specifications and camera changes
A tipster has shared specifications of an upcoming Ultra smartphone, which reports suggest could be the Vivo X500 Ultra. The device is expected to use Qualcomm’s recently released Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, an octa-core processor with peak clock speeds of up to 5.01GHz.
The phone is also tipped to feature a 50-megapixel primary rear camera with Sony’s LYT910 sensor and a 35mm-equivalent focal length.
If accurate, this would be a downgrade in resolution compared with the Vivo X300 Ultra’s 200-megapixel primary camera, which uses a 1/1.12-inch sensor. However, the new model could offer improvements in telephoto photography.
Previous reports suggest that Vivo is testing a 200-megapixel telephoto camera with a 1/1.12-inch sensor for the X500 Ultra. The handset is also expected to feature a 6.85-inch LTPO BOE display with “2K+” resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz.
