Uttarakhand strengthens cybercrime response with new State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre

In a major step to strengthen its response to cybercrime, the Uttarakhand government has decided to establish a State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (SCCCC). The Chief Secretary announced that a notification for setting up the centre will be issued soon following a meeting with the Home Secretary and senior police officials at the State Secretariat on Monday.

The Chief Secretary said the SCCCC will improve coordination between the Centre, the State, and district authorities, enabling faster assistance for victims of cybercrime. He also directed officials to strengthen all cyber police stations across the State.

To improve emergency response, he instructed that the 1930 cyber helpline be strengthened by increasing the manpower at the 1930 call centre to reduce response time. He also emphasised the need to strengthen the e-zero FIR system and directed officials to speed up the conversion of e-zero FIRs into 100% FIRs while ensuring their integration with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).

The Chief Secretary noted that many cyber fraud victims fail to file complaints on time or use the money restoration module because they are unaware of the available support. He directed the police department to take a more proactive role in assisting victims and to increase public awareness through media and social media about the complaint redressal system and the money restoration module. The objective is to help people avoid cyber fraud and ensure victims know the correct steps to take after an incident.

He also instructed officials to resolve complaints received through the Grievance Redressal Module (GRM) within the prescribed time frame.

In view of the increasing number of cybercrime cases, the Chief Secretary also directed the police department to strengthen capacity building for officers and employees and increase the number of cyber commandos across the State.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, ADG V. Murugesan, IG Nilesh Anand Bharne, and SSP STF Ajay Singh.
