A major cybercrime operation in Uttar Pradesh has led to the arrest of 12 accused in Chandauli district as part of the statewide Cyber Vajra campaign. The joint operation was carried out on Sunday by the Cyber Cell, Cyber Crime Police Station, and teams from multiple police stations across the district.

Police formed 9 teams and conducted simultaneous raids targeting suspects allegedly involved in cyber fraud through mule bank accounts, suspicious mobile numbers, NCMEC tipline inputs, suspicious cheque withdrawals, and ATM cash withdrawals. Action has been initiated against 14 accused, of whom 12 have been arrested.

According to police, the accused are linked to 51 complaints registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) from different states. The suspected fraud amount is estimated at around ₹1.8 crore, while nearly ₹1.4 crore has already been put on hold.

The arrested accused are Virendra Kumar, Ashish Patwa, Soni, Shekhar Kushwaha, Sajid Ansari, Vikash Kumar, Manoj Yadav, Shivjanam, and Dharmu Chauhan from Chandauli district, Shubham alias Shivam alias Priyanshu from Farrukhabad, Satish Rai from Jhansi, and Deepak Singh from Varanasi.

Investigators said the accused allegedly received and withdrew cyber fraud money through mule bank accounts created in the name of investment, gaming, trading, and other online activities. They also allegedly used cheque withdrawals, ATM transactions, and suspicious mobile numbers on WhatsApp and Telegram to lure victims into trading and task-based fraud schemes. Police also found alleged involvement in storing and uploading obscene videos and photographs based on NCMEC tipline inputs.

Police have registered 11 cases under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, and the POCSO Act at the Chandauli Cyber Crime Police Station and Chakia Police Station.

Police have advised the public not to share personal or banking information after being influenced by attractive online offers or advertisements. Victims of cyber fraud have been urged to report incidents within 24 hours by calling the National Cyber Helpline at 1930, filing a complaint through the NCRP, or visiting the nearest police station cyber helpdesk.
