A 22-year-old innovator from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has drawn attention for building a 7-seater solar-powered vehicle using scrap materials at an estimated cost of just Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000. The project highlights how grassroots innovation can contribute to discussions around sustainable and affordable mobility.

Asad Abdullah developed the vehicle in a small workshop using discarded metal and other recycled materials. Built through experimentation and practical problem-solving, the vehicle is designed to run on solar energy without relying on conventional fuel.

According to reports, the solar-powered vehicle can travel more than 200 kilometres when exposed to adequate sunlight. The design focuses on simplicity, with the aim of making clean energy solutions more accessible and practical for everyday use.

What makes the project particularly notable is its low-cost construction. By repurposing scrap materials that would otherwise be discarded, Abdullah was able to create a functioning vehicle for a fraction of the cost associated with conventional automobiles or electric vehicles.

The vehicle can accommodate up to 7 passengers, making it more than just a prototype. While still a basic model, it demonstrates the potential of low-cost renewable energy solutions in addressing transportation challenges.

India has a long history of grassroots innovation, where individuals in small towns and local workshops develop practical solutions using limited resources. Abdullah’s creation reflects this tradition of problem-solving through creativity, resourcefulness and determination.

Beyond the vehicle itself, the project has sparked conversations about sustainable mobility and the role of local innovators in driving change. It also highlights how innovation does not always require large investments or advanced infrastructure.

Asad Abdullah’s solar-powered vehicle serves as an example of how simple ideas, combined with persistence and ingenuity, can lead to solutions that inspire wider discussions about clean energy and the future of transportation.
