Tencent Strengthens AI Capabilities with New Hunyuan Updates

Tencent has announced significant enhancements to its artificial intelligence (AI) offerings, focusing on advanced models and practical applications for businesses. The company introduced updates to its Hunyuan AI ecosystem, aiming to provide more efficient and versatile tools for various industries.

At a recent industry summit, Tencent unveiled two new AI models: Hunyuan Turbo S and Hunyuan T1. Hunyuan Turbo S is designed for quick responses, utilizing a hybrid Mixture of Experts (MoE) and Mamba architecture.

“As AI continues to evolve, every company is becoming an AI company,” said Tang Daosheng, senior executive vice president of Tencent and CEO of its cloud and smart industries group. Tang was speaking at a Tencent Cloud industry summit held on May 21.

This model has shown improvements in tasks related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as coding and mathematical problem-solving. Hunyuan T1 focuses on deep reasoning and has been integrated into Tencent’s Yuanbao app, enhancing its capabilities in complex tasks.

In addition to these models, Tencent introduced several multimodal AI tools:

  • Hunyuan Voice: A low-latency voice model for real-time speech applications.
  • Hunyuan Image 2.0: An updated image generation model with improved visual outputs.
  • Hunyuan 3D 2.5: A 3D model generation tool that offers higher precision and detail.
  • Hunyuan-Game: An AI tool tailored for game development, assisting in creating interactive content.

These tools are designed to cater to various sectors, including entertainment, design, and virtual reality.

Tencent’s internal adoption of AI has been substantial. The Hunyuan AI Coding Assistant is now used by over half of Tencent’s programmers, leading to a 40% increase in productivity. Furthermore, the Hunyuan foundation model has been integrated into more than 700 of Tencent’s internal products, enhancing functionalities across the company’s ecosystem.

On the global front, Tencent Cloud is expanding its AI services.

The company introduced a palm verification technology aimed at secure identity authentication. This technology is being piloted by international partners, including Indonesia’s Telkomsel, for applications ranging from payment systems to security access management.

Tencent’s commitment to AI development is evident in its continuous investment and innovation. By enhancing its AI models and expanding their applications, Tencent aims to provide practical solutions that meet the evolving needs of businesses worldwide.
