Hyderabad continues to strengthen its reputation as a major global technology and innovation hub with Southwest Airlines officially launching its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in the city. The move adds another multinational company to the region’s rapidly expanding enterprise and technology ecosystem.
The development was confirmed by Telangana Industries Minister Sridhar Babu Duddilla, who shared on X that senior executives from Southwest Airlines met him at the Telangana Secretariat and invited him to the inauguration ceremony of the Hyderabad GCC scheduled for May 20.
The delegation included Lauren Woods, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Krishna Kallepalli, Vice President and Global Head of Innovation India and Centre Head, and Tom Merritt, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. Their visit highlighted the strategic importance of the Hyderabad center in the company’s global technology and innovation plans.
Industry experts believe the new GCC will focus on technology innovation, digital transformation, enterprise operations, engineering support, and advanced aviation-related solutions. GCCs are increasingly helping multinational companies manage software development, cloud operations, cybersecurity, AI integration, customer platforms, and business process transformation from India.
Sharing the update publicly, Minister Sridhar Babu Duddilla said the Telangana government remains committed to transforming GCCs into “Global Value Centers” by promoting innovation, attracting global investments, and creating quality employment opportunities for the youth.
Hyderabad has witnessed rapid GCC growth in recent years, with multinational companies from aviation, healthcare, technology, banking, and manufacturing sectors expanding operations in the city. Analysts say the availability of skilled engineering talent, strong digital infrastructure, and supportive government policies continue to position Hyderabad among India’s leading global enterprise destinations.
The establishment of Southwest Airlines’ GCC is also expected to strengthen Hyderabad’s role in the global aviation technology and enterprise innovation landscape as airlines increasingly invest in AI-driven operations, cloud infrastructure, and customer experience technologies.
