Singtel and Ericsson have signed a new 5-year strategic partnership to expand 5G Advanced capabilities and accelerate the adoption of AI-powered networks across Singapore. The agreement builds on their existing collaboration and aims to bring advanced connectivity solutions to industries where network performance can improve productivity, operational efficiency and safety.

In a joint statement, the companies said they would focus on expanding the commercial deployment of advanced connectivity across major infrastructure and industrial projects.

Ng Tian Chong, CEO of Singtel Singapore, said the growing use of AI in everyday life would require networks capable of supporting complex applications, including autonomous machines, real-time analytics and AI-powered tools. He highlighted the importance of making these capabilities accessible while strengthening network reliability, security and performance.

Under the agreement, Singtel and Ericsson will explore opportunities across projects such as Changi Airport Terminal 5, Bulim Square and developments by JTC. Potential applications include autonomous mobility, intelligent inspection systems, real-time video analytics and remote monitoring.

Singtel also plans to expand network slicing and programmable connectivity to support AI-driven applications in autonomous vehicles, industrial robotics, smart manufacturing and intelligent logistics. These technologies require dedicated network capacity, low latency and reliable performance to help connected machines, sensors and AI systems operate in real time.

PSA Singapore already uses a network slice on Singtel’s 5G network to track shipments and streamline crane operations at Tuas Port. The technology also supports secure, private networks designed to meet the port’s specific security requirements.

In consumer services, the companies have worked to enhance Singtel’s 5G+ network. Recent technology improvements have enabled peak uplink speeds of up to 250 Mbit/s on compatible newer devices. These speeds support faster transmission of high-definition video and other data-intensive content, including live streaming, remote monitoring and AI-powered video analytics.

The partners will continue working to improve uplink speeds and explore on-demand options that allow subscribers to access higher network performance when needed.

Another priority is the integration of AI into network operations. The companies aim to improve the prediction of connectivity demands, optimise network resources and identify potential performance issues earlier.

A recent live network trial of AI-powered radio access network capabilities demonstrated a 19% improvement in throughput. Over the next 5 years, Singtel and Ericsson plan to use AI and machine learning to forecast traffic patterns, improve resource allocation and strengthen network performance.

Greater automation across radio and core networks is also expected to improve operational efficiency, optimise energy consumption and enhance service reliability.

Daniel Ode, head of Ericsson Singapore, Brunei and Philippines and Global Customer Unit Singtel, said the partnership would combine 5G, 5G Advanced and AI-native operations to support Singapore’s digital ambitions, help critical industries and improve everyday digital experiences.
