India’s artificial intelligence ecosystem is gaining strong global attention, as homegrown start-up Sarvam AI is in advanced talks to raise a significant funding round that could value the Bengaluru-based firm at around $1.5 billion.

Investment firm Glade Brook Capital is expected to invest $20–25 million in the round, which is attracting strong interest from global and domestic players.

The funding round is set to include strategic investors such as Nvidia, Amazon and HCLTech, along with venture capital firms Bessemer Venture Partners and Prosperity 7 Ventures. Existing backers including Peak XV Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Khosla Ventures are also expected to participate.

Term sheets have already been signed, and the final structure of the deal is being worked out. Around $150–200 million is likely to come from the 3 strategic investors—Nvidia, Amazon and HCLTech.

Founded in 2023, Sarvam AI focuses on building India-first large language models and AI infrastructure tailored for local languages and enterprise needs. The company aims to position itself as a sovereign AI platform serving sectors such as government services, enterprise automation and digital public infrastructure.

The start-up has seen a sharp rise in valuation, growing from $110 million in 2023 to nearly $1.5 billion in this round. Its partnerships with companies like Qualcomm, Nokia and Bosch have further strengthened its market position.

Industry experts say strategic investors such as Nvidia, Amazon and HCLTech bring key advantages, including GPU access, cloud infrastructure and enterprise deployment channels, which are important for scaling AI operations.

The development reflects a broader trend of rising global investment in AI startups, especially those building foundational models that require large-scale infrastructure.
