Samsung is reportedly revising its foldable smartphone production strategy by giving higher priority to the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8. According to a report, the company plans to manufacture 2.8 million units of the device this year, significantly more than its other foldable models expected to launch at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event.
The report states that Samsung is targeting production of 2.8 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units, compared to 2 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and 1.5 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 8. This marks a notable shift from the company’s earlier production plans, which reportedly allocated similar manufacturing capacity to both Fold models.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z foldable series is said to ship between 5 million and 6 million units annually. Shipments reportedly crossed 6 million units last year, supported by strong demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This year, total foldable production is expected to range between 5.5 million and 6 million units.
The company is also expected to refresh its foldable lineup. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is likely to succeed the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with the familiar book-style design. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to introduce a wider, passport-style foldable design.
According to reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could feature a 5.5-inch cover display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 7.6-inch AMOLED inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Both screens are expected to support refresh rates of up to 120Hz.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also expected to be priced lower than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Reports suggest it may include a dual rear camera setup, while the Ultra model could feature a triple-camera system.
Samsung has already confirmed that its next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place on July 22 in London, beginning at 2:00 pm BST (6:30 pm IST). The company is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Watch 9 series and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 during the event.
