Punjab: Major cyber scam reported as Ludhiana -based industrialist loses Rs 20 crore

In Punjab, in one of the biggest cyber scams reported in the state so far, a Ludhiana-based industrialist has been duped of nearly 20 Crore rupees by a sophisticated, high-value organised crime syndicate. They allegedly used a fake website of a trusted trading platform and a bogus digital dashboard, besides multiple fake SIM cards, to extract money.

The Cyber Crime Division of the Punjab Police has registered a case and has initiated a detailed probe into this massive cryptocurrency fraud. He is reportedly the second industrialist in Punjab to be duped by cyber criminals.

Earlier in the year 2024, an interstate gang of cyber criminals had duped Padma Bhushan awardee and Vardhman Group chairman SP Oswal of 7 crores rupees by posing as CBI officers and keeping him under digital surveillance for two days. Recently, in December last year, an Inspector General of Punjab Police was also duped of 8.10 crore rupees in the state.
