In a move signalling its India expansion, Protolabs is setting up a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, strengthening its presence in the country’s fast-growing GCC ecosystem.
The company is expected to begin operations this month, marking its official entry into India. As part of its initial growth plans, Protolabs aims to scale the Hyderabad centre to around 200–300 employees in the near term, with hiring largely focused on engineering roles.
The upcoming GCC will focus on advanced engineering, digital manufacturing technologies, and product development. It will also support the company’s core capabilities in rapid prototyping and on-demand production services.
As part of its expansion strategy, a Protolabs delegation met Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu. The delegation included CFO Dan Schumacher, CHRO Agnes Semington, CTO and CAIO Marc Kermisch, and India Managing Director Ashish Sharma. The discussions centred on the company’s plans for entering and growing in India.
The new centre is expected to enhance capabilities in rapid prototyping and low-volume manufacturing. It is also likely to further strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a key destination for engineering-driven GCCs.
Protolabs’ move highlights the continued momentum of India’s GCC ecosystem, particularly in high-value engineering and manufacturing sectors.
