Wider smartphone displays could be making a comeback as manufacturers explore new screen designs. Huawei recently introduced the Pura X View in China with a 6.39-inch OLED display and a wide 16:9.5 aspect ratio. Now, a tipster suggests that Oppo may be developing a similar device called the Reno X, with a wide display, a MediaTek chipset and 2 high-resolution rear cameras.

According to tipster Gadgetsdata, the upcoming phone could be a compact yet “wide slab phone”. The design recalls the phablet-style devices popularised by the Samsung Galaxy Note series, which first appeared in 2011.

Unlike conventional smartphones with taller, narrower screens, the Oppo Reno X is tipped to feature a nearly tablet-like 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. This would offer a wider-screen experience similar to Huawei’s Pura X View.

The Reno X is expected to feature a 6.35-inch display with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It could also come with a metal frame and a MediaTek Dimensity 9000-series chipset, although the processor details remain unconfirmed.

Dual 200-megapixel cameras tipped

The camera system could be a key highlight of the device. The Oppo Reno X is reportedly being developed with 2 200-megapixel rear cameras, one for the primary camera and another for the periscope telephoto camera. An additional 50-megapixel sensor is tipped for the ultrawide camera.

The phone’s pricing has not been revealed. However, its Reno branding suggests that Oppo could position it in the mid-range or premium segment.

In India, Oppo’s Reno series currently starts at ₹52,999, with its most expensive model priced at ₹72,999. The lineup includes the Oppo Reno 16c and Reno 16.

Although the Reno series initially focused on the mid-range segment in India, rising memory costs have pushed prices higher, placing the phones in the premium smartphone category.

Oppo has not confirmed the Reno X or its reported specifications.
