In a strategic move to scale enterprise adoption, OpenAI is strengthening its collaboration with major global consulting and IT services firms.
The company is working with leading system integrators such as Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, Infosys, PwC, and Tata Consultancy Services to deploy its Codex AI tools across software development operations. The initiative aims to integrate AI more deeply into enterprise workflows and systems.
As part of this expansion, OpenAI is also launching Codex Labs. This initiative will place OpenAI specialists within client organisations to support implementation and customise Codex according to internal processes.
Codex is designed to assist across the software development lifecycle, including writing, reviewing, and reasoning about code. The company reported that adoption has grown rapidly, with over 4 million developers currently using the tool, up from around 3 million earlier this month.
The move comes as competition in the enterprise AI space intensifies. Companies like Anthropic are gaining traction with their Claude models for coding and reasoning tasks. At the same time, major technology firms such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon are investing heavily in AI solutions tailored for businesses.
OpenAI has also been refining its strategy by reducing focus on smaller experimental projects and prioritising core offerings like Codex and ChatGPT.
Meanwhile, Cognizant is integrating Codex into its Software Engineering Group to make it a standard capability in development and delivery processes. Commenting on the partnership, Rajesh Varrier said, “We are embedding Codex as a partner in how our engineers work – handling code generation, refactoring, testing and documentation – so our teams can apply human judgment where it is needed most. OpenAI brings frontier intelligence. Cognizant brings enterprise scale, deep industry expertise and the governance rigor that industry requires.”
