OpenAI rolls out ChatGPT Health with Apple Health and medical record support in the US

OpenAI has announced the general availability of ChatGPT Health in the US, giving eligible users access to a dedicated health workspace that can provide more personalised responses using connected health data. The feature is now available to all logged-in free and paid users aged 18 and above on the web and iOS. However, OpenAI noted that “Health is not yet available in Codex”.

Users can continue asking health-related questions without linking any apps. However, those looking for personalised and contextual responses can securely connect Apple Health and supported medical records from US healthcare providers, including One Medical and Function Health. ChatGPT Health can be accessed through the sidebar or the More menu, where users are guided through the process of connecting their health data.

Once connected, ChatGPT Health can access information such as medications, lab results, recent medical visits and sleep activity. It combines this data with a user’s health goals and conversation context to generate tailored responses. For example, it can consider dietary restrictions when suggesting restaurants or factor in recent injuries while recommending lower-impact weekend activities. Users can also review health trends, browse synced records and revisit previous health conversations.

OpenAI also highlighted the performance of its recently launched GPT-5.6 Sol AI model. According to the company, the model outperformed GPT-5.5 Instant and GPT-4o on the HealthBench Professional evaluation platform. GPT-5.6 Sol achieved scores of 91 for Accuracy, 86.7 for Communicates Clearly, 88 for Completeness, 93.8 for Follows Instructions and 83 for Health Decision Helpfulness.

The company also revealed that ChatGPT users now ask more than 300 million health-related questions every week. OpenAI said people are increasingly using the AI chatbot to understand lab reports, prepare for doctor appointments, interpret medical advice and build a “healthier routine”.
