Mivi is preparing to expand beyond its established audio business with its first smartphone for the Indian market. The upcoming handset is expected to target budget buyers and could feature 5G connectivity and a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.
According to a report citing industry sources, the phone is expected to launch in the sub-Rs. 15,000 segment, although Mivi has not confirmed its final price. The company has already teased the handset on Flipkart, but its name, launch date and full specifications remain undisclosed.
The promotional listing reveals a green colour option and a flat rear panel with rounded corners. The Flipkart microsite also indicates that the phone will be sold in India through the e-commerce platform.
Mivi has confirmed the use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, but the exact processor is yet to be revealed. Details about the camera setup, battery, RAM and storage are also unavailable.
The company has reportedly appointed Himanshu Tandon, who has previously worked with Poco and CMF by Nothing, adding smartphone industry experience to its team.
Mivi’s entry comes as competition grows in India’s budget smartphone market. Fire-Boltt is moving from wearables into smartphones, while Ai+ has already launched handsets in the country. Micromax is reportedly preparing a comeback, and Philips has teased a new phone.
At the same time, established brands such as Redmi, Realme, OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo are increasingly focusing on higher price segments.
Higher RAM and storage costs have made aggressive pricing more difficult for established smartphone makers, creating an opportunity for newer brands. Mivi’s first phone is therefore expected to compete on more than its Snapdragon processor, with cameras, battery life, software support, performance and after-sales service likely to be important factors.
