Choosing what to wear could become easier with Meta’s new AI-powered app, Style Sketch. The outfit-planning tool helps users create looks from clothes they already own by building a digital wardrobe and recommending combinations based on their personal style.
The app connects with Instagram and the user’s photo album to identify clothing items and organise them into a digital wardrobe. Users can also add pieces manually using photos, videos or their camera roll.
AI-powered outfit recommendations
Style Sketch uses the available wardrobe and the user’s preferences to suggest outfit combinations. Recommendations are tailored to their clothing choices, personal style and body shape.
Users can also preview suggested outfits on a realistic virtual model matched to their body shape and skin tone. The app focuses on making better use of individual wardrobe items that may not be worn often, including jackets and footwear.
The recommendations can also take travel plans into account. Users can receive outfit suggestions based on their destination, trip duration and expected weather.
Style Sketch also allows users to explore current fashion trends and looks before finding ways to recreate similar styles with clothes from their own wardrobe. They can share 2 outfit options directly with a friend to get feedback or send looks they like.
Availability and competition
Style Sketch is listed on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for Android and iOS devices. It appears to be available in select markets, including Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Meta has not announced when the app will reach other regions.
The new app could compete with existing AI-powered fashion tools from companies such as Alta. Google Photos also offers similar features that help users organise clothing pictures into digital wardrobes and explore different outfit combinations.
