US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) Jamnagar complex in Gujarat on Wednesday, with discussions focusing on energy cooperation, advanced manufacturing and potential partnerships between Reliance and US companies.

Rubio was accompanied by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. The delegation was welcomed by Reliance Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani and Executive Director Anant Ambani, according to the company.

During the visit, the delegation toured the world’s largest single-site oil-refining complex and received briefings on its scale, advanced technologies and integrated operations. They were also briefed on Reliance’s new energy giga-factories, which are being commissioned in phases, and data centres currently under construction.

Mukesh Ambani and Anant Ambani outlined Reliance’s long-term vision for Jamnagar, positioning the complex as a centre for deep technology, innovation and advanced manufacturing. The visit highlighted the company’s investments in energy and digital infrastructure.

Discussions covered the global energy landscape and opportunities for commercial collaboration across conventional and new energy. Key areas included reliable and affordable energy supplies, technological advancements, resilient supply chains and investments needed to meet rising demand.

The delegation also explored the growing connection between energy and digital infrastructure, particularly the importance of dependable power supplies for data centres and the expanding digital economy. The Ambanis highlighted potential areas of collaboration with US companies, pointing to complementary capabilities in technology, engineering and advanced manufacturing.

Rubio spent a few hours at Jamnagar before departing for the United States. His visit followed remarks a day earlier in which he described India as a crude-refining “superpower” and urged the country to process more Venezuelan oil.

The visit underscores the potential for closer commercial engagement between Indian and US companies in energy, advanced manufacturing and digital infrastructure, as both countries navigate changing global energy requirements and growing demand for technology-driven services.
