Karnataka accelerates AI education with indigenous KEO PC deployment

In a major push to make artificial intelligence accessible across the state, Karnataka is preparing to deploy the first batch of 2,000 indigenously developed KEO AI-ready personal computers. The initiative aims to bring AI education and digital learning opportunities to rural communities, schools, and libraries beyond Bengaluru.

Priced at ₹18,999, the KEO PCs are designed to support AI literacy, spoken English, digital skills development, competitive exam preparation, prompt engineering, and Karnataka State Board learning content for students from Classes 6 to 10.

According to an official statement, most of the 2,000 systems will be installed in rural libraries during the first phase, while the remaining units will be distributed across educational institutions. The rollout forms part of the broader ArivuKendra.ai and Schools.ai initiatives, which aim to deploy AI-enabled systems across 239 taluks in Karnataka.

Built on an open-source architecture and powered by a RISC-V processor, the KEO PCs are capable of running AI applications locally on the device. This allows users to access advanced AI tools even in areas with limited internet connectivity, helping extend technology access to last-mile communities across the state.

Karnataka Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge visited the KEONICS manufacturing facility in Peenya to review the assembly and deployment process. During the visit, he inspected the production line, interacted with engineers and technical teams, and assessed the facility’s readiness for large-scale deployment.

Speaking on the occasion, Kharge said, “The first batch of 2,000 AI-ready KEO PCs marks an important step in ensuring that access to technology reaches every corner of the state.”

He added that the systems will help improve AI literacy, digital skills, and learning outcomes while ensuring technology access in low-connectivity regions.

The minister further stated, “This is not just a technology rollout-it is a step towards reducing the digital divide, creating AI-ready youth, and ensuring that the future of technology belongs to every child in Karnataka.”
