Jharkhand Police detain 5 suspected cybercriminals in Dhanbad raid

A targeted police operation in Dhanbad district has led to the arrest of 5 suspected cybercriminals as authorities investigate a possible cyberfraud network.

Jharkhand Police conducted a raid in Bhalpahari village under Operation Cyber Shield, with the arrests reported on 15 October 2026. The action followed intelligence inputs suggesting that the suspects were allegedly preparing to carry out cyberfraud.

Electronic devices and banking records seized

During the operation, police recovered:

  • 3 laptops
  • 20 mobile phones
  • 16 ATM cards
  • 23 bank passbooks
  • 10 cheque books
  • Identification documents
  • 1 electronic point-of-sale (POS) device

Investigators are examining the seized devices and banking records to identify possible links between the suspects and wider criminal networks.

The investigation is expected to focus on the use of electronic devices and banking resources in the suspected fraud activities. The arrests form part of Jharkhand Police’s ongoing efforts under Operation Cyber Shield.

Digital forensics to support the investigation

The case highlights how suspected cybercrime operations may involve multiple bank accounts, SIM cards and electronic devices.

Digital forensics and incident response (DFIR) teams can support investigations through device imaging, SIM attribution, bank account mapping and digital evidence correlation. Analysing these records together can help investigators examine possible links between individuals, devices and financial transactions.

Criminal network analysis can further help establish whether the seized items are connected to a wider operation.
