Amid growing concerns about AI replacing jobs, Jeff Bezos has dismissed fears of large-scale unemployment while introducing his latest artificial intelligence venture, Prometheus.
The new company is focused on developing what Bezos calls an “artificial general engineer” — an AI system designed to help create and manufacture complex products, including jet engines. The goal is to make engineering faster and more efficient, enabling smaller teams to deliver larger and more advanced projects in less time.
“We are trying to empower engineers and make invention easier and faster, so smaller teams can do much bigger things on much shorter time cycles,” Bezos said.
Bezos believes AI will boost productivity across industries and create new economic opportunities rather than eliminate jobs. He argues that the technology will enhance human capabilities, improve efficiency, and support innovation as businesses increasingly adopt AI-powered solutions.
Prometheus is co-led by Vik Bajaj, a former Google executive and entrepreneur. The company is building AI tools that can support the entire engineering and manufacturing process, from product design to production.
The startup has already attracted strong investor backing, raising $12 billion and reaching a valuation of $41 billion. Its investors include JPMorgan Chase, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, DST Global, Arch Venture Partners, and Bezos. The company currently employs about 150 people across San Francisco, London, and Zurich.
The launch further strengthens Bezos’ presence in the rapidly evolving AI sector, where technology leaders are investing heavily in solutions aimed at transforming industries, accelerating innovation, and improving productivity.
