Sharad Mathur has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IndusInd General Insurance, formerly known as Reliance General Insurance Company and part of the IndusInd International Holdings Limited (IIHL) Group. He brings around 3 decades of experience across insurance and financial services, with expertise in business strategy, distribution, organisational transformation and technology-led growth.
Before joining IndusInd General Insurance, Mathur served as Managing Director and CEO of Universal Sompo General Insurance for more than 6 years. During his tenure, he focused on expanding distribution networks, strengthening risk management and underwriting practices, and improving customer service through technology.
Earlier, Mathur spent around a decade at SBI General Insurance, where he held several senior leadership positions, including Head – Sales and Distribution, Senior Vice President and National Head – Agency, Digital and Alternate Channel, and Vice President and Head – Retail.
Across these roles, he led national sales and distribution operations, including bancassurance, agency, digital and alternate channels. His responsibilities also covered branch networks, business partnerships and retail insurance growth.
Mathur’s professional journey also includes serving as General Manager – Membership and Financial Services at Reliance Retail Limited. Before that, he worked for more than 5 years at ICICI Lombard as National Sales Manager – Resell, Cross Sell and Up Sell.
He began his career across organisations including Thomas Cook India, Shell and MRF, gaining experience in sales, distribution, financial services and market development.
With experience spanning insurance operations, business expansion, digital transformation and governance, Mathur brings a broad understanding of the general insurance sector to his new role.
At IndusInd General Insurance, he will lead the company’s next phase of growth, drawing on his experience in expanding distribution, strengthening business operations and advancing technology-led customer services.
