India has the potential to become one of the world’s leading hubs for AI talent by 2030, according to a joint report released by IBM and IndiaAI. The report stated that artificial intelligence could contribute more than $500 billion to the country’s economy if adoption and workforce readiness continue to expand.

Despite the opportunity, the report noted that only around 30% of India’s workforce currently has AI literacy or familiarity with AI technologies.

The study outlined a major national goal of increasing AI literacy to 60% of the workforce by 2030 through large-scale skill development and training initiatives.

According to Sandip Patel, organisations and business leaders must develop a deeper understanding of AI systems if they want to integrate the technology effectively into their operations.

The report also addressed concerns surrounding the impact of AI on employment. While some traditional job roles may change or disappear due to automation, Patel said new opportunities and technology-driven positions are expected to emerge across industries.

Researchers stressed that reskilling, adaptability and continuous learning will play a critical role in preparing workers for the future AI-driven economy.

The report highlighted that India’s large workforce, expanding technology ecosystem and growing focus on digital transformation position the country strongly in the global AI race.

Industry experts believe that with the right investments in AI education, infrastructure and workforce development, India could become a major global supplier of skilled AI professionals by the end of the decade.

The findings also underline the increasing importance of AI adoption across sectors such as technology, business operations, manufacturing, financial services and digital governance.
