India, Australia and Canada deepen AI collaboration through new technology partnership

Expanding their collaboration on emerging technologies, India, Australia, and Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership. The agreement builds on the trilateral initiative announced in November 2025 and provides a framework to advance joint technology and innovation efforts.

The new MoU focuses on strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), critical minerals, clean energy technologies, and resilient technology supply chains. It also aims to promote stronger collaboration between governments, research institutions, and industry to accelerate innovation and commercialisation of emerging technologies.

A key priority of the partnership is expanding cooperation in AI adoption, workforce skilling, and the AI startup ecosystem. The agreement also supports collaboration on AI policy, regulation, and risk management. In addition, it covers sectors including semiconductors, data centres, cloud computing, digital public infrastructure, IoT, robotics, high-performance computing, and cybersecurity to encourage innovation while improving digital security.

According to Australia’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources, the partnership will support joint research, talent mobility, business engagement, and policy cooperation. It also establishes annual ministerial meetings, senior officials’ dialogues, and thematic working groups to identify, manage, and monitor collaborative projects while promoting the responsible development and deployment of AI and other emerging technologies.

The three countries will also work together to strengthen supply chains for critical minerals and hardware components that support AI infrastructure and advanced manufacturing. The collaboration aims to improve secure access to semiconductor inputs, computing hardware, and other strategic technologies while reducing supply chain risks.

Beyond technology, the agreement also creates opportunities for wider cooperation in areas such as trade, defence, and space technologies.
