Amid ongoing global uncertainties, India and South Korea have reinforced their strategic ties with a focus on long-term economic and technology collaboration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted South Korean President Lee Jae Myung for bilateral talks, where both leaders announced multiple initiatives to expand their special strategic partnership.
Key announcements included the launch of an India-Korea digital bridge aimed at strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and information technology. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were also signed in sectors such as shipbuilding, sustainability, steel, and ports.
PM Modi said both countries are working towards doubling bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030, laying the groundwork for future growth.
More than 12 MoUs were signed during the visit, including a joint declaration to resume negotiations for upgrading the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The South Korean President had earlier highlighted accelerating CEPA negotiations as a priority.
The visit also resulted in major outcomes such as the Joint Strategic Vision for the India-Republic of Korea Special Strategic Partnership, a comprehensive framework for cooperation in shipbuilding and maritime logistics, and joint statements on sustainability and energy resource security.
PM Modi emphasised that shared democratic values, market-driven economies, and respect for the rule of law form the foundation of the relationship between the two nations.
“From chips to ships, from talent to technology, from environment to energy, we will realise new opportunities for cooperation across sectors and together ensure progress and prosperity for both countries,” PM Modi said.
