Highlighting a shared commitment to technology, innovation, and global problem-solving, India and France jointly launched Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, marking a significant step in strengthening cooperation across emerging and strategic technologies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated the 3-day event, which aims to connect Indian startups, innovators, and researchers with global investors, innovation funds, and entrepreneurs. The launch took place during the first leg of Modi’s Europe visit, which also includes participation in the G7 Summit outreach sessions.
The two leaders underscored the trust and common vision that define the India-France strategic partnership. They emphasised collaboration in key sectors such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, space, nuclear energy, quantum computing, biotechnology, advanced materials, aerospace, and defence technologies.
Speaking at the event, Modi said the participating startups represent an India that is evolving from being a consumer of solutions to becoming a contributor of solutions for the world. He noted that India is increasingly emerging as a technology provider whose innovations benefit large sections of humanity.
“Bharat Innovates is an invitation to the world to co-create the next chapter of global innovation with India,” Modi said. “We seek partnership, co-development, joint research, shared manufacturing and long-term collaboration…Come to India, work with us, design in India, develop in India and create solutions for the world.”
He also highlighted India’s focus on smart cities, advanced manufacturing, electric mobility, defence technologies, and sustainable innovation. According to Modi, sectors such as AI, quantum computing, biotechnology, space technologies, and advanced materials will play a key role in shaping the future.
Macron said India and France share a vision of open research, respect for international law, and the development of reliable, safe, responsible, and ethical AI. He also highlighted France’s investments in AI, aerospace, quantum computing, and nuclear energy, while noting its participation in the Make in India initiative and its goal of attracting 30,000 Indian students by 2030.
Bharat Innovates 2026 is showcasing 120 Indian startups and more than 20 institutes of excellence working across 13 critical technology pillars. The event has also attracted participation from more than 350 investors and venture capitalists from around the world.
