IBM has announced a partnership with OpenAI to bring advanced AI capabilities into enterprise security operations, helping organizations respond more effectively to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
As part of the collaboration, IBM has joined the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program and will work with OpenAI to integrate AI-driven security tools directly into business environments. The initiative is designed to help companies identify, assess, and reduce cybersecurity risks more efficiently.
The partnership also includes the launch of a new application security service that leverages OpenAI’s cyber capabilities to help organizations detect and validate software vulnerabilities with greater speed and accuracy.
The new offering is built on Project Lightwell, an initiative introduced by IBM last month to combine engineering expertise and AI technologies to improve the security of open-source software. The project is supported by a $5 billion investment commitment from IBM and Red Hat.
Under Project Lightwell, OpenAI’s cyber capabilities will be used alongside other advanced AI models to support code reviews, vulnerability detection, and remediation efforts.
Commenting on the partnership, Mark Hughes, Global Managing Partner, Cybersecurity Services, IBM Consulting, said, “The OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program expands our access to a broader set of advanced AI capabilities, which we deploy within our clients’ environments to help surface the most relevant risks faster and help them act with confidence.”
The collaboration reflects the growing adoption of AI-driven security solutions as enterprises look to strengthen cyber resilience, improve threat detection, and accelerate vulnerability management in increasingly complex digital environments.
