IAF Partners with IG Drones to Revolutionize Tool Tracking and Boost Airbase Safety

In a major leap toward improving airbase safety and operational efficiency, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has inked a deal with IG Drones, a drone technology firm based in Gurugram, to introduce a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tool tracking system. This innovative system is designed to provide real-time tracking of tools, mitigating risks related to Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and minimizing downtime, significantly enhancing airbase operations. This collaboration aligns with India’s vision of self-reliance in defense technology under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The BLE tool tracking system will first undergo a pilot phase at the Gwalior Airbase, setting the stage for its eventual deployment across other IAF and Army airbases throughout the country. As Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, the founder of IG Drones, expressed, “Winning the iDEX challenge and deploying our BLE tool tracking system for the IAF is a proud moment for us. This technology not only enhances operational safety but also streamlines maintenance efficiency.”

The system integrates cutting-edge technologies such as AI-powered inventory management and Industrial IoT (IIoT), replacing the time-consuming manual tracking process that typically takes hours. With a remarkable battery life of six to eight months, the system ensures seamless operations and minimal maintenance interruptions.

IG Drones’ contribution to India’s growing drone ecosystem extends beyond military applications. The company’s efforts to establish Drone Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in Odisha’s Kalahandi district under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) aim to empower tribal youth and women with valuable drone technology skills, further driving digital empowerment in rural India.

As the BLE tool tracking system is tested at Gwalior, the IAF is poised to extend this breakthrough technology across the nation, reinforcing airbase safety and operational readiness. IAF partnership marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards cutting-edge, self-reliant defense capabilities.
