Hyderabad cybercrime police arrest 2 in alleged ₹70 crore fraud network

A network accused of supplying bank accounts and SIM cards to cybercriminals has come under scrutiny in Hyderabad, where cybercrime police have arrested 2 men. Police said the alleged frauds involved around 450 cases across India, with transactions worth ₹60 crore to ₹70 crore.

The accused have been identified as Gumma Ramesh, 39, and Mudale Anil, 19. Both are residents of Ramanthapur.

According to a police press note, the 2 men were arrested on October 8 following credible information. Police also seized 2 mobile phones from them.

How the alleged account network operated

Ramesh, who previously lived in Karnataka’s Bidar district, moved to Hyderabad with his family due to financial difficulties and settled in Ramanthapur. He rented a car and worked as a driver for Rapido and Uber, where he allegedly came into contact with cyber fraudsters.

Police said Ramesh and an absconding accused allegedly approached students, delivery partners and other people in and around Ramanthapur. They reportedly offered commissions in exchange for bank accounts and SIM cards.

The accused allegedly collected bank passbooks, debit cards, internet banking credentials and SIM cards before sending them by courier to associates in Haryana for use in cybercrime.

Investigators suspect that these accounts and SIM cards were used to cheat hundreds of victims. The transactions linked to the alleged frauds are estimated at ₹60 crore to ₹70 crore.

Anil allegedly opened 3 bank accounts

Police said Anil allegedly opened 3 savings accounts at different banks in return for a commission from Ramesh. He then handed over the related account credentials to Ramesh.

The investigation is linked to an alleged network that supplied financial and communication resources to cybercriminals operating across multiple locations in India.
