Hyderabad cyber police probe alleged AI-generated posts targeting PM Modi

A social media dispute involving allegedly morphed and AI-generated content has led to cases being registered by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police against Meta India head Arun Srinivas and several Facebook and Instagram accounts. The content allegedly targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was circulated during a recent protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over the alleged NEET paper leak.

The cases were registered after complaints from businessman S. Aravind Reddy and Telangana BJP activist T. Saikiran Goud. The complainants said they came across multiple digitally altered videos and images on Instagram that allegedly portrayed the Prime Minister in an obscene, derogatory and misleading manner.

According to the complaints, the posts also included comments containing abusive and indecent language directed at the Prime Minister and others shown in the content. The complainants alleged that the material had been digitally manipulated or created using artificial intelligence and was circulated widely across social media platforms.

They further alleged that such content could spread misinformation, trigger public unrest, outrage public decency, defame public figures, disturb public order and promote hostility between different sections of society.

The Hyderabad police also took note of several posts and comments linked to the student protests that allegedly contained abusive and profane material.

An investigation is currently underway to identify those responsible for creating and circulating the content. No arrests have been reported so far.
