Air travel updates are becoming more seamless as Google introduces a new feature that lets users track flights directly from their phone’s lock screen through Google Wallet.

This new widget activates automatically once a boarding pass is saved in Google Wallet. Without unlocking the phone or opening airline apps, users can view key details like departure and arrival airports, estimated landing time, and a progress bar showing real-time flight status. It is especially useful during long flights, layovers, or those moments when passengers keep wondering, “Are we there yet?”

How it works

Setting it up is simple. Users need to add their boarding pass to Google Wallet and ensure their device is running Android 16. The widget appears on the lock screen automatically before takeoff and continues to provide live updates throughout the journey.

Useful for frequent flyers

The feature is particularly helpful for travellers flying across major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata. Instead of checking airport screens or switching between apps, users can quickly see their flight status at a glance. It also makes it easier for family members or colleagues to stay updated on arrival times.

More than just payments

Google Wallet is expanding beyond payments. The app already allows users to store cards, event tickets, transit passes, loyalty memberships, and even government IDs in some regions. With flight tracking now added, it is moving closer to becoming an all-in-one travel companion.

Availability

There is no confirmed launch date for India yet. However, users with Pixel devices or newer Android flagship phones running Android 16 are expected to receive the feature first as the rollout begins.

This update may not be flashy, but it solves a common problem. Instead of jumping between apps, users can simply glance at their lock screen for real-time flight updates, making travel more convenient.
