Google introduced major upgrades for its Gemini app on macOS during Google I/O 2026, bringing new agentic AI capabilities and advanced voice features to Apple’s Mac devices.
The company unveiled Gemini Spark, its latest personal AI assistant powered by the Gemini 3.5 series models. The upgrade is designed to help users complete tasks more efficiently across macOS devices.
With the new Spark update, Mac users will be able to organise local files, extract data from PDFs directly into Google Sheets, and interact with Gmail more seamlessly through the Gemini app.
Google also announced new voice-based AI experiences for macOS users. The updated Gemini app will refine speech-to-text inputs in real time by correcting words and removing filler phrases such as “um,” “ah,” and “like” while users speak.
The feature appears similar to Google’s Rambler tool, which was introduced during The Android Show I/O Edition earlier this month. However, the company has not confirmed whether both tools use the same underlying technology.
Another major addition is screen awareness support. The Gemini app on macOS will soon be able to access on-screen context to better understand user activity and generate more accurate responses.
Google said this feature will help Gemini transform “free-flowing speech into precise drafts” while also reformatting text to better match the user’s intended meaning.
The company confirmed that the Gemini app for macOS is already available for download globally. However, the Gemini Spark upgrade will first roll out this summer in the US for users subscribed to the Google AI Ultra plan.
Meanwhile, the new voice AI features will be released globally for all users over the coming weeks.
The latest update highlights Google’s growing focus on bringing advanced AI productivity tools and agentic capabilities to desktop platforms, including Apple’s macOS ecosystem.
