AI-generated music is getting more expressive as Google rolls out Lyria 3.5, the latest version of its AI music generation model. The update is designed to deliver richer melodies, better lyrics and more natural vocals, while giving users greater control over how their tracks sound. Lyria 3.5 is now rolling out through Flow Music.

According to Google, Lyria 3.5 can create more detailed melodies and compositions, while generating lyrics that stay closer to user prompts and follow a more consistent song structure. The model also offers more expressive vocals with improved pronunciation.

Flow Music users can now control the tempo and duration of generated tracks more precisely, giving them greater flexibility while creating music.

The update builds on Flow Music’s existing editing features. Users can modify individual sections of a track, rewrite or translate lyrics, change instruments and refine music without having to recreate the full composition.

At Google I/O 2026, the company also introduced conversational editing tools for music videos, along with more precise controls for changing individual elements within a track.

Google first introduced Lyria in 2023 through Google DeepMind. Earlier this year, Lyria 3 added the ability to create songs from text prompts, images and videos. It could also generate lyrics, vocals and cover art, while allowing users to adjust genre, mood and tempo.

Google later introduced Lyria 3 Pro, which extended song length to 3 minutes and added more creative controls for paid Gemini subscribers. Lyria has also expanded to YouTube Shorts through Dream Track and Google Vids for AI-generated background music.

Google has not confirmed whether Lyria 3.5 will replace Lyria 3 Pro across Gemini or its developer platforms. Google AI Plus, AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers receive access to different Flow Music subscription tiers.
