As competition in AI apps intensifies, Google appears to be working on a refreshed design for its Gemini app, focusing on a more interactive and visually engaging user experience.
Early reports suggest that the updated interface includes animated backgrounds, a cleaner layout, and improved navigation. The redesign aims to make the app feel more responsive while simplifying how users interact with its features. So far, these changes have only been spotted on iOS devices and appear to be limited in rollout.
The first glimpse of the new design came from a Reddit post by user u/TaxOld2989, who shared screenshots of the updated interface on an iPhone. The images show a dynamic background behind the main prompt area, with subtle animations that respond to user interaction. The prompt is placed at the centre along with the Gemini logo, creating a more focused layout.
The redesign may also change how users access tools within the app. Reports suggest that the plus button at the bottom opens a unified menu, bringing together features such as images, camera input, music, canvas, deep research, guided learning, and file uploads in one place. This could reduce the need to switch between different sections.
Additional visual improvements include softer design elements, semi-transparent layers, and smoother transitions. On iOS, the app may introduce a glass-like effect, giving it a more modern look. Spacing between elements also appears more balanced, which may improve readability and usability.
At present, the redesigned interface is not widely available. Some iOS users have reported not seeing the update, and there is no confirmation yet of its release on Android. The limited rollout suggests that Google may be testing the changes before a broader launch.
