Google may have hinted at a major new feature for its upcoming Pixel smartphones during the Google I/O 2026 event. The feature, called Pixel Glow, is expected to bring an AI-powered notification system to the upcoming Pixel 11 series later this year.
During the keynote demonstration of Gemini Omni, a device believed to be the Pixel 11 briefly showed a glowing light effect around the rear camera bar. The illuminated strip appeared for a few seconds while a model was holding the phone, triggering speculation that Google may have accidentally revealed the rumoured Pixel Glow feature.
Reports suggest the feature could work as a smart notification light system integrated with Gemini AI. The glowing effect may alert users about updates and notifications when the phone is placed face down. However, some reports also suggest the lighting effect shown during the event could simply represent AI-generated visuals rather than an actual hardware feature.
The smartphone seen during the presentation was covered with a protective case, making it difficult to confirm whether it was an unreleased Pixel 11 device or an existing Pixel 10 model.
The Pixel Glow feature was first discovered through an APK teardown of Android 17 Beta 4. The feature reportedly carries the codename “orbit” and is expected to use LED lighting similar to a light bar system. Industry observers believe the concept may take inspiration from the notification design seen in Nothing smartphones.
Google is expected to officially unveil the Pixel 11 lineup during its next “Made by Google” event, which is likely to take place in August 2026. The upcoming smartphones are also expected to feature the new Tensor G6 chipset, which could reportedly be manufactured by TSMC using a 2nm process.
The possible teaser at Google I/O has already sparked discussion among tech enthusiasts, especially as AI-powered smartphone features continue to become a major focus across the mobile industry.
