Google Photos is adding several new tools aimed at making photo editing, organisation and creative transformations easier. The update brings an upgraded Markup tool with a Redact pen, new Moods for vintage-style edits, 15 additional Remix templates and wider access to the AI-powered Wardrobe feature. Gemini Spark can also now work with Google Photos to select, brighten and prepare images for sharing through a single prompt.
The upgraded Markup tool is rolling out globally on Android. It introduces a Redact pen that can blur sensitive information in photos, along with adjustable pen thickness for more precise edits. Users can also access new fonts when adding text to images.
Moods is also rolling out globally on Android. The AI-assisted feature offers styles inspired by 35mm film, 2000s digicams and other vintage formats. Users can adjust the strength of these effects with slider controls before saving the final image.
Google Photos is also adding 15 Remix templates on Android and iOS in select countries. The templates can turn photos into red carpet-style images, birthday cards and photo booth shots. Access is limited to users aged over 18.
Google has expanded its AI-powered Wardrobe feature to eligible Android and iOS users in the US, India and Brazil. It can identify clothes in photos and organise them into a digital collection. Users can browse different clothing types, create combinations, explore virtual styling and try new looks. Google says wardrobe-related data is not shared with third parties such as retailers.
Gemini Spark can now use photos from Google Photos when helping users select family portraits. With a single request, it can find suitable images, improve their brightness and prepare them for sharing. The feature is available to eligible Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US.
Remix templates are available in select countries on Android and iOS for users aged 18 and above. Wardrobe is available to eligible users in the US, India and Brazil, while Gemini Spark integration currently requires a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription and is limited to eligible users in the US.
