Google is expanding the availability of Gemini in Chrome by rolling out the AI-powered browsing assistant to desktop users in the UK. The company has also confirmed that support for iOS devices will arrive next month, extending access to more users.
Gemini in Chrome helps users interact with web content without leaving the page they are viewing. It can summarise long articles, answer questions, explain concepts and compare information across multiple browser tabs. The feature uses content from the user’s current browser tab to provide relevant responses.
Google has also integrated Gemini in Chrome with its services, allowing users to schedule meetings through Google Calendar, check locations using Google Maps, write emails with Gmail and ask questions about YouTube videos directly from the browser.
The AI assistant remembers context from previous conversations to deliver more personalised responses. It also includes Nano Banana 2 capabilities, enabling users to transform images on the web using simple text prompts.
According to Google, the feature has been designed with security in mind. The AI models can recognise known threats, including prompt injection attacks, and include safeguards that require user confirmation before completing sensitive actions.
Gemini in Chrome was first introduced in the US last year before expanding to several other regions, including Canada, New Zealand, India, Africa and the Middle East. Earlier this year, the feature also became available in India with support for 8 Indian languages.
The feature is available to users aged 18 and above. On desktop, Gemini in Chrome can also access and share content from up to 10 open browser tabs to provide more comprehensive assistance.
