Factory secures $200 million funding at $5 billion valuation

AI coding is attracting growing investor interest as businesses look to accelerate software development and improve workforce productivity. Against this backdrop, Factory, a startup building AI agents for enterprise engineering teams, has raised $200 million in its latest funding round, taking its valuation to $5 billion.

The latest funding has more than tripled Factory’s valuation from $1.5 billion in April, when the company raised $150 million.

The round was backed by Blackstone, Khosla Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, Evantic Capital and Sound Ventures, among others.

Founded in 2023 by Matan Grinberg and Eno Reyes, Factory provides a platform that enables enterprises to use AI agents to build, test and maintain software. The company competes with AI coding platforms such as Cognition and Cursor.

Cognition raised $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation earlier this month.

“Across the world’s largest enterprises, we are seeing a move from individual coding agents to software factories that serve as the core foundation from which an entire software company operates,” said Matan Grinberg, co-founder and CEO of Factory.

The latest fundraise comes as companies such as Coinbase and Block reshape their workforces around AI, citing productivity improvements.

AI-assisted coding has become one of the most widely adopted applications of generative AI. It has also attracted billions of dollars in investment as businesses explore ways to speed up software development.

At the same time, the rapid pace of AI development has raised concerns. Some senior industry executives have called for slower advances amid growing fears that the technology could be misused.

Factory is based in San Francisco, California.
