Experts urge firms to strengthen AI governance before adoption

As organisations rapidly adopt artificial intelligence tools, industry experts are warning businesses to put strong governance frameworks and data protection measures in place before integrating AI into operations.

Speaking at the 2026 technology conference, experts highlighted that AI adoption brings new cybersecurity and compliance challenges that traditional security systems may not fully address.

Brian Green, Chief AI Officer at Health-Vision.AI, said AI governance is essential to protect privacy, intellectual property, and sensitive business information from external access. He stressed that organisations must carefully manage what data AI systems can access and how that information is stored and used.

Experts also warned that AI-driven workflows involving multiple AI agents can create complex risks that are difficult to track. “At some point, something isn’t going to go right,” said Paul Wright, Vice President of Global Ecosystem and AI at LiftForward. “When you have longer and longer workflows of agents talking to agents, where did it go wrong? And how do you know?”

According to Wright, organisations should review how their data is organised, stored, and protected before deploying AI tools. He also said companies must evaluate ethical concerns and biases linked to AI systems and ensure there is always human oversight during AI-led processes.

Industry leaders suggested that forming a dedicated AI governance committee or task force can help businesses manage growing operational, ethical, and security responsibilities linked to AI adoption.

Legal preparedness was also highlighted as a key concern. Fred Wilf, Managing Partner at Wilftek, said companies need to stay compliant with evolving regulations and legal requirements surrounding AI use.

“We’re looking also at making sure that we’re in compliance with all the many laws and regulations,” Wilf said, “to ensure that all the risks are managed, including all the legal risks.”

Experts noted that organisations adopting AI without clear governance policies may face increased operational, legal, and cybersecurity risks in the future.
