Europe’s automobile market continued its growth in June, driven by strong demand for electrified vehicles, while Chinese automakers expanded their presence across the region.

According to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), total car registrations, a key indicator of sales, increased 13.1% to 1,407,332 vehicles across the European Union, Britain, and the European Free Trade Association.

Demand for electrified vehicles remained the primary growth driver. Registrations of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) rose 51%, plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) increased 22.7%, and hybrid vehicles grew 17.1%. Together, these vehicles accounted for almost 70% of all new car registrations.

In contrast, registrations of petrol and diesel vehicles declined 12.2% and 16.9%, respectively.

Chinese automakers continued to strengthen their market position. BYD, Chery, and Leapmotor recorded sales that were nearly 3 to 6 times higher than the previous year. Meanwhile, SAIC posted sales growth of more than 50%, while Geely recorded an 11% increase.

Among European manufacturers, Renault, Stellantis, and Volkswagen also reported higher registrations, with growth ranging between 3.6% and 7.3%.

The latest figures highlight the growing shift toward electrified mobility across Europe, while Chinese automakers continue to gain momentum in one of the world’s most competitive automotive markets.
