Dubai Police has reported a decline in several key crime categories during the first half of 2026, with fraud, cybercrime and economic crime among the areas showing improvement. The findings were presented during a performance review of the General Department of Criminal Investigation.
The meeting was chaired by Major General Hareb Mohammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs. He reviewed crime trends, operational achievements and strategic initiatives for Q2 2026.
Compared with the same period last year, several priority crime categories recorded a decline. Dubai Police attributed the improvement to proactive investigations, intelligence-led operations, advanced technology and stronger coordination between specialised units and partner organisations. Public awareness campaigns focused on emerging scams and crime prevention also supported the efforts.
103 fake social media accounts shut down
The Anti-Fraud Centre’s work was also reviewed, including reports received, fraud patterns and emerging challenges linked to financial and online scams.
During Q2, Dubai Police shut down 103 fraudulent social media accounts as part of efforts to tackle online fraud and protect residents from increasingly sophisticated scams.
AI used to strengthen investigations
Officials also reviewed field operations conducted during the quarter and highlighted the role of specialised teams in fighting crime and improving operational readiness.
The meeting covered smart transformation projects, including the growing use of artificial intelligence in criminal investigations, crime data analysis and decision-making. Dubai Police said these technologies are helping move policing from reacting to crimes towards anticipating and preventing them.
Major General Al Shamsi stressed that tackling emerging threats, especially fraud and cybercrime, requires cooperation between law enforcement agencies, residents and public and private sector institutions.
He urged residents not to share personal or banking details with untrusted parties and to report suspicious activity immediately.
Al Shamsi also praised the General Department of Criminal Investigation teams for their professionalism and performance, saying the results should encourage continued operational excellence and efforts to improve quality of life in Dubai.
Dubai Police will continue strengthening investigative capabilities by analysing crime indicators, anticipating emerging threats and investing in technology and specialised talent.
